Back pain is one of the most common niggles that adults face as a result to spending long hours desk bound, often with a chair that does not properly support the spine and neck. Whilst most people look to massages, medication and heat to help their back pain there is actually a very effective technique called dry needling that can help assist with common back pain.
Dry needling is an effective technique used to help relieve tension in the body. It works by inserting a thin sterile needle into a tight muscle, this causes a minor injury to that tissue, triggering a healing response. Allowing the muscle to heal faster. It also provokes a twitch response in the tissue, which is the muscle contracting and then relaxing. So it also allows the muscle to relax and help remove the tightness or ‘knot’ you may have been experiencing to ease.
The needle generally stays in for no more than 1 minute as that is all that is needed for the brain to respond. Dry needling is very effective in treating back pain, it helps muscles to help reduce pain, increase range of motion and function of your back. By helping the tight muscles of the back relax, this helps reduce pain and increases movement help you with relief of your back pain, helping you to get on with your life pain free.
